London to Stansted Airport Taxi — Fixed Fares Both Ways

A private transfer between any London address and Stansted Airport, priced by your exact postcode and vehicle class. Fares start at £65.10 from east London in a saloon and rise by up to 40% for west London — because London is roughly 20 road miles wide on the Stansted axis and that distance is reflected in the fare. Every quote is fixed before you book: no meter, no surge, and congestion never changes the total. The £10 drop-off charge and all road tolls are included. On arrivals, we track your flight and build the wait into your pickup.

Fare Explained

Why Your Postcode Changes the Fare by Up to 40%

London is not one origin. It is roughly 20 road miles wide on the Stansted axis — and half that distance is half the length of a central-London journey. The fare formula is simple: a minimum covering the first 5 miles, then a per-mile rate for every mile beyond. Your postcode determines the mileage, and the mileage determines the fare.

East London — closest to the M11

Stratford, Hackney, Canary Wharf and the eastern boroughs face the airport directly. The M11 is reachable without crossing the city, so both fare and journey time are at their shortest. Saloon from ~£65.10 at ~32 miles.

Central London — City and West End

The City, Westminster, Holborn and the surrounding central districts sit at roughly 40 road miles. Two sets of congestion points — urban roads, then the motorway. Saloon from ~£75.50 at ~40 miles.

West & South London — longest journeys

Hammersmith, Kensington, Croydon and the western or southern boroughs must route around or across the city, often via the M25. Three congestion points, wider time range. Saloon from ~£88.50–£91.10 at ~50–52 miles.

The spread is £26.00 on a saloon — around 40% — for the same journey described as "London to Stansted". Any quote listing one flat London fare has chosen a postcode without telling you which. Give us your full postcode and we confirm your exact figure before you commit.

How Much Is a Taxi from London to Stansted Airport?

The fare is built from two numbers: a minimum covering the first 5 miles, then a per-mile rate for every mile beyond. Both depend on the vehicle class you book. The table below shows the rate card; underneath it, the zone table shows what that produces at approximate road distances from different parts of London.

Both Directions

London to Stansted and Stansted to London

The service runs in both directions on the same fixed-fare basis, priced independently. Departures and arrivals work differently — here is what changes.

London to Stansted Airport (Departures)

We collect from any London address — home, office, hotel or a central-London rail terminal — at the booked time, load the luggage, and take you direct to the terminal set-down. The £10 drop-off charge is already in the fare with nothing to pay at the kerb.

For early-morning flights, this is the point of pre-booking: the Stansted Express stops at around 00:30 and does not restart until between 05:28 and 05:55, depending on the day — no train runs during the five-hour window when Stansted's departure wave begins. We collect at any hour at the same fare as any other time.

Tell us your flight time rather than a pickup time and we work backwards from the bag drop deadline, adding journey time at the upper end of the range and a buffer — so you arrive with margin rather than by luck.

Stansted Airport to London (Arrivals)

On arrivals, we track your inbound flight and set the driver's arrival against the actual landing time, not the scheduled one. Land ninety minutes late and the driver arrives ninety minutes later — at no extra charge and without you making a call.

Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board, helps with the luggage, and walks you to the vehicle. 45 to 60 minutes of free waiting is included from landing, which covers a normal arrival including passport control and baggage reclaim at Stansted's single terminal.

The last train from Stansted leaves around 00:30 — a flight landing at 23:30 leaves you in the arrivals hall near midnight with no margin if anything runs late. A booked transfer has no last departure. See our Stansted pickup guide for arrivals detail.

Journey Time

How Long Does London to Stansted Take by Taxi?

Journey time tracks the number of congestion points between your pickup and the M11, not simply the mileage. East London crosses one; central London crosses two; south and west London typically cross three, which is why those journeys have a wider range rather than simply a longer one.

East London
1h – 1h 15m
Shortest · M11 direct
North London
1h 10m – 1h 25m
Via A406 or directly
Central London
1h 15m – 1h 30m
Urban roads then M11
South London
1h 30m – 2h
Often via M25
West London
1h 30m – 2h+
Longest · via M25

The M11 is at its busiest 07:00–09:00 and 17:00–19:00 on weekdays. Budget the upper end of the range for those windows. The M11 has limited parallel capacity, so a single incident affects every London approach simultaneously — your driver monitors conditions and takes the workable approach on the day.

Pickup Locations

Any London address. Below are the main pickup categories — give us the full postcode and any designated pickup point (hotel entrance, office lobby, station exit) and we confirm the exact fixed fare to that point.

East London — Stratford, Hackney, Canary Wharf
Central — City, Westminster, Soho

A full postcode is the most important detail at booking — it determines both the fare and the pickup route, and a partial address is the most common cause of a delayed pickup.

Choose the Right Vehicle for Your Journey

Luggage decides vehicle class more often than passenger numbers. Four adults fit a saloon; four adults with four airport cases do not. Tell us passengers and cases and we will confirm the right class before you pay.

For business travel between the City and the airport, the Executive (Mercedes E-Class) or Executive MPV (V-Class) is available with corporate accounts and consolidated billing. Full specifications on our fleet pages.

Honest Comparison

Taxi vs Train vs Coach — Which Fits Your Journey?

Work through it in order: time → luggage → group size → pickup location → flexibility → cost. One option that does not hold up for a taxi: if you are one person, travelling light, in daylight, to somewhere near Liverpool Street, the train costs less and takes less time. That is a real answer.

Private Transfer (Us)

  • Door-to-door · no changes · no luggage hauling
  • Fixed price agreed before travel · no surge
  • 24/7 · no overnight gap
  • Flight tracking · 45–60 min free wait on arrival
  • 8 vehicle classes · child seats free
  • Groups share one price, not one each

Stansted Express

  • 48 min from Liverpool Street · from £9.90 advance
  • Must reach departure station first
  • Carry own luggage at both ends
  • No service ~00:30 to 05:30
  • Tied to timetable · no door-to-door

Best for: solo or duo traveller near Liverpool Street, travelling light, in daylight.

National Express Coach

  • From ~£7 booked ahead · 24 hours a day
  • Designated pickup points only
  • Fixed timetable · one large case per passenger
  • Subject to road traffic like any car

Best for: solo traveller near a coach stop, flexible on timing, cost is the priority.

Per-Head Cost vs Walk-Up Rail (Central London)

Passengers Vehicle & our fare Per head Advance rail Walk-up rail
1Saloon £75.50£75.50£9.90£24.00
2Saloon £75.50£37.75£19.80£48.00
3Saloon £75.50£25.17£29.70£72.00
4Saloon £75.50£18.88£39.60£96.00
6MPV6 £87.00£14.50£59.40£144.00
8MPV8 £98.15£12.27£79.20£192.00

Against advance rail, we become cheaper at four passengers from central London. Against walk-up rail, we become competitive at four. Per-head figures rounded to nearest penny.

London ↔ Stansted Taxi — Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much is a taxi from London to Stansted Airport?

A: From £65.10 in a saloon from east London and £75.50 from the City, calculated as a £30.00 minimum covering the first 5 miles plus £1.30 per mile beyond. Your exact fare depends on your pickup postcode and vehicle class, and is fixed at booking.

Q: Why does the fare change depending on where in London I am?

A: Because London is roughly 20 road miles wide on the Stansted axis. A saloon costs £65.10 from east London and £91.10 from west London — a £26.00 spread, around 40%, for the same journey. Eastern London reaches the M11 without crossing the city.

Q: How long does a taxi take from London to Stansted?

A: One hour to an hour and a half in normal conditions, and up to two hours at peak or after an incident. East London journeys are quickest; west and south London are longest, because they cross more congestion points.

Q: Is a taxi cheaper than the train from London to Stansted?

A: Not for one or two people. Advance rail fares start at £9.90 against £75.50 for a saloon. Against walk-up fares we become cheaper at four passengers, and an 8-seater works out at £12.27 per head.

Q: Can I book a taxi from London to Stansted for an early morning flight?

A: Yes, at any hour, with no night premium. This is the strongest case for pre-booking on this route, because no train runs between roughly 00:30 and 05:30 — exactly when Stansted's departure wave starts.

Q: Is the Stansted drop-off charge included?

A: Yes. The £10 charge, up from £7 effective 19 March 2026, is included in your fixed fare. There is nothing to pay at the kerb and no payment deadline afterwards.

Q: Which vehicle do I need for my luggage?

A: A saloon takes two large cases, an estate three or four, and an MPV more. Size by the boot rather than the seats — four adults fit a saloon, but four adults with four airport cases do not.

Q: Are child seats available and do they cost extra?

A: They are free, for every age group, and fitted before we arrive. Give us the children's ages when you book.

Q: Is the fare fixed or does it change with traffic?

A: Fixed at booking. It does not change for traffic, for a longer route on the day, or for the time of travel. There is no surge, no night premium and no peak premium.

Q: What happens if my flight into Stansted is delayed?

A: We track it and move the pickup to your actual landing time, at no extra charge and with no rebooking fee. You do not need to contact us — a ninety-minute delay simply means a driver ninety minutes later.
