Broadstairs to Stansted Airport is a long cross-country journey from the Kent coast to Essex, crossing the Thames rather than going through London. It is one of the more demanding routes we run, and public transport handles it poorly — every scheduled option runs into London and back out again, turning a single road journey into a multi-leg expedition with luggage.

The Whole Proposition

One Journey, or Four

Broadstairs sits on the Isle of Thanet at the eastern tip of Kent, between Ramsgate and Margate. Stansted sits north-east of London in Essex. Between them lies the Thames Estuary. On a short route, door-to-door is a convenience. On this one it is the difference between a single journey and four.

Private transfer

One leg · no changes
  • Your Broadstairs door → Stansted terminal, in one vehicle

The driver loads your bags at your door and unloads them at the terminal. No stations, no platforms, no carrying luggage between legs — and the Dartford Crossing toll is already in the fare.

By rail

At least four handling points
  • Reach Broadstairs station with your cases
  • Train into London
  • Cross the city to Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale
  • Stansted Express out to the airport

At least two changes on an already long journey. Each one is a separate failure point, and each one is a point where the cases come off and go back on.

Who books this route: Thanet residents flying Stansted's European network, families for whom a multi-change rail journey with cases is impractical, and travellers on early departures that no scheduled service can cover.

Both Directions

Broadstairs to Stansted, and Stansted to Broadstairs

The same route, the same fixed-fare basis, in both directions. The return leg is the one that carries the most risk by any other means.

Broadstairs to Stansted Airport

One vehicle runs from your Broadstairs address to the Stansted terminal. Your driver pulls into the terminal set-down area and helps with your bags — Stansted operates one terminal, so there is no wrong building to reach.

The £10 drop-off charge is included in your fare, with nothing to pay at the kerb and no payment deadline afterwards.

Tell us your flight time rather than a pickup time and we will calculate the departure for you, working back from the bag-drop deadline with a buffer for the crossing.

Stansted Airport to Broadstairs

On arrival we monitor your flight and set the driver's arrival against the actual landing time, with meet and greet in the arrivals hall and 45 to 60 minutes of free waiting after you land.

This is where the route is hardest by any other means. A flight landing in the evening leaves you crossing London and heading down into Kent against the clock of several last services — with a real chance of not making it home at all.

Fixed Fares

How Much Is a Taxi from Broadstairs to Stansted Airport?

Every fare is built the same way: a minimum covering the first 5 miles, then a per-mile rate — both set by the vehicle class you book. What we do not do on this route is publish a single headline figure, and the reason is worth explaining before the rate card.

Why we quote from your postcode, not from a published figure

Road distance on this route varies meaningfully depending on the crossing used and the routing taken on the day. The Dartford Crossing route and a through-London route produce different figures, and the choice depends on conditions.

Publishing one number would mean publishing a number that may not apply to your address. So we quote your exact fare from your postcode at the point of booking — and once quoted, it is fixed.

Estimate your own fare in four steps

Your road distance as driven, not straight-line
Subtract 5 the first 5 miles sit in the minimum
× per-mile rate from the rate card below
+ the minimum £30.00 in a saloon

That gives you a working estimate. Your exact fare is confirmed from your postcode when you book, and fixed from that point — it does not move for traffic, for the routing your driver takes on the day, or for the time you travel.

The Dartford Crossing is in your fare

All tolls and road charges are included — the Dartford Crossing among them — along with the £10 Stansted drop-off charge (up from £7, effective 19 March 2026), child seats where requested, and luggage assistance at both ends.

On a route that crosses the Thames, that inclusion matters. Drive yourself and the crossing is charged separately, with its own payment deadline to remember after you have already flown. Book with us and there is nothing to pay and nothing to remember.

Distance & Journey Time

How Far Is Broadstairs from Stansted, and How Long Does It Take?

A long-distance journey across two counties and the Thames Estuary. Road distance varies by routing — the Dartford Crossing route and a through-London route produce different figures — and the duration depends heavily on the crossing and the M25. This route crosses three exposed sections rather than one, which is why the range is wide.

The Dartford Crossing

Largest variable

Queues here add substantial time and resist prediction. It is the single biggest unknown on the journey.

The M25

Exposed

Carries the journey around to the M11 and is among the busiest motorway sections in the country.

The A2 or M2

Kent side

The run out of Thanet towards the estuary. Generally the more predictable half of the journey.

The M11 approach

Shared

Shared with every Stansted journey, with limited parallel capacity when something goes wrong.

Budget the upper end and add a buffer. Because exposure compounds rather than simply adds, an estimate built on clear conditions is the wrong number to plan a flight around. Our journey times guide explains why — and our distance guide covers how road, rail and straight-line distances diverge around Stansted.

Planning

Early Flights, Luggage, Groups and Children

Four questions that decide most bookings on this route, answered before you have to ask them.

Booking for an early flight

Stansted's departure wave begins around 04:00. A 07:00 flight means being in the terminal by 05:00 — which on a journey of this length means a pickup in the small hours.

Nothing scheduled covers that. Rail from Thanet does not run at that hour, and the connections across London do not either. For an early Stansted flight from the Kent coast, a pre-booked car is generally the only workable answer.

We charge the same fare at 02:00 as at 14:00. Book well ahead — the journey is long and the vehicle is committed for its duration.

Which vehicle is suitable for luggage?

Saloon — two large cases plus hand luggage. Estate — three or four large cases with up to four passengers. MPV5 to MPV8 — more, with boot space falling as the seats fill.

On a journey this length, book the class that fits comfortably rather than the smallest that technically works. The difference in fare between classes is modest against the total; the difference in comfort over two hours is not.

We carry sports equipment, instruments and oversized items — mention them at booking so we allocate a vehicle that fits, rather than discovering the problem at the kerb.

What should groups consider?

Up to 8 passengers travel in one vehicle — an MPV8, typically a Mercedes Vito. Above 8, we arrange multiple vehicles on a single booking, scheduled to arrive together at both ends.

Group luggage is the constraint, not seats. Eight passengers with eight large cases will not fit one 8-seater. Give us both numbers at booking and we will size it properly, which may mean two vehicles.

Group economics are strong on a long route. A single vehicle fare divided by eight compares well against eight rail fares on a journey requiring multiple changes.

Travelling with children

Child seats are free for every age group, fitted before we arrive. Give us the children's ages at booking.

Pushchairs travel with you and the driver loads them — but they take real boot space, so count them when choosing your class.

On a long journey with children, the door-to-door element matters more than on a short one. There are no changes, no platforms and no waiting rooms.

Honest Comparison

Taxi vs Public Transport from Broadstairs

Public transport wins on cost, for one person with time and light luggage. We would rather say that plainly than have you find it out afterwards. Everything else on a route this long goes the other way — because each change is a failure point, and there are several.

By train

Services from Broadstairs run into London, from which you cross the city to Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale for the Stansted Express. At least two changes, and a long journey.

By coach

No direct service. Any coach routing involves London and a transfer. See our coaches and buses guide.

By car and parking

Pre-booked airport parking from around £6.80 a day against gate prices reaching £21.50 to £57. On a route this long, the drive itself is the consideration rather than the parking rate.

Where public transport wins

Cost, for one person with time and light luggage. That is a real answer for some travellers, and we will not pretend otherwise.

8 Vehicle Classes

Choosing the Right Vehicle

Because the per-mile rate carries most of a long fare, vehicle class has a real effect on the total here — and so does the boot. Size by luggage, not by seats.

Above eight passengers we run multiple vehicles on one booking, scheduled to arrive together at both ends. Tell us passenger numbers and case numbers and we will size it correctly.

Free child seats for every age group. Sports equipment, instruments and oversized items carried on request. Full specifications on our fleet pages.

Broadstairs to Stansted Airport Taxi — Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How much is a taxi from Broadstairs to Stansted Airport?

A: We calculate your fare from a £30.00 minimum covering the first 5 miles plus a per-mile rate by vehicle class, and confirm it from your exact postcode at booking. Because road distance varies by routing here, we quote your address rather than publishing one figure.

Q: How do I book a taxi from Broadstairs to Stansted Airport?

A: Give us your pickup postcode, destination and flight time, online or by phone. You receive a fixed quote, then written confirmation with the price locked and your driver's details before travel.

Q: How long does Broadstairs to Stansted Airport take?

A: A long journey, with the duration depending heavily on the Dartford Crossing and the M25. Both are exposed, so budget the upper end of any estimate and add a buffer before a flight.

Q: How far is Broadstairs from Stansted Airport?

A: A long-distance journey across Kent, the Thames Estuary and into Essex. Road distance varies by whether the Dartford Crossing or a through-London routing is used, which is why we quote from your postcode.

Q: Is the Dartford Crossing included in the fare?

A: Yes. We include all tolls and road charges, along with the £10 Stansted drop-off charge. If you drive yourself, the crossing is charged separately with its own payment deadline.

Q: Is there a direct train from Broadstairs to Stansted Airport?

A: No. Services run into London, from which you cross the city for the Stansted Express — at least two changes on a long journey.

Q: Can you collect for an early morning flight?

A: Yes, at any hour with no night premium. A 07:00 flight means a pickup in the small hours on a journey this length, which nothing scheduled covers. Book well ahead.

Q: Which vehicle is suitable for luggage?

A: A saloon takes two large cases, an estate three or four, and an MPV more. On a journey this long, book the class that fits comfortably rather than the smallest that technically works.

Q: What vehicle should groups consider?

A: Up to 8 passengers in an MPV8. Above that, multiple vehicles on one booking. Eight passengers with eight large cases will not fit one vehicle — give us both numbers.

Q: Do you cover Ramsgate, Margate and the rest of Thanet?

A: Yes — Ramsgate, Margate, Westgate-on-Sea, Birchington and St Peter's among others. Distances differ from Broadstairs, so fares differ.

Q: What happens if my return flight is delayed?

A: We monitor it and adjust the pickup to your actual landing time, with 45 to 60 minutes free waiting and no rebooking fee. On a route this long, that flexibility matters more than usual.

Q: Are child seats included?

A: Yes, free for every age group and fitted before we arrive.
