Most people arrive at this journey still weighing up which of the two they want, so the comparison comes before the price. Both are legitimate answers on this corridor and each one wins for a different traveller.
Two products answer the phrase. One is a scheduled public service on which you buy a seat — the National Express coach, or the LNER train via London Paddington. The other is a private hire vehicle, in which you buy the whole car and the driver.
The coach
National Express operates the direct Leeds–Heathrow coach. For a solo traveller with light luggage it is hard to beat. Service 240 leaves from £24.00 one-way, fastest five and a quarter hours. The only gap: the first bus departs Leeds at 00:20 and the last at 23:59 (National Express, July 2026; verify), so an early morning Leeds departure or midnight Heathrow landing fall outside it.
The train
LNER runs Leeds to London King's Cross in 1h 59m fastest, roughly every half-hour weekday, with 32 direct trains a day (LNER, July 2026; verify). The Piccadilly line then runs straight from King's Cross St Pancras to all four Heathrow terminals — no station change, just 69 minutes to Terminal 5 on contactless pay.

Terminal 4 is the one that catches people out. Heathrow Express does not serve Terminal 4, so you change at Terminals 2 and 3. The Piccadilly line does serve it, though on a loop. Our fare is the same £278.30 to all four.

Your driver waits inside arrivals at Terminal 2, 3, 4 or 5 with a name board. We time the pickup from the actual landing rather than the schedule. Free waiting runs 60 minutes after you land.
This is where the car earns its place. The last northbound train leaves King's Cross before midnight, so a late landing strands you. A 23:40 arrival at Terminal 5 has no rail option home that night. We run 24 hours, and the fare does not change at 02:00.
