Written before you travel
Every fare is confirmed in writing before the journey. No surprises at the kerb, no adjustment on arrival, and amendments are re-quoted rather than surcharged.
The drive out of Dartford picks up the A282 and heads straight onto the M25 westbound. The A282 is the road that carries the Dartford Crossing, and it is not classed as motorway — worth naming correctly, because it is the reason the crossing charge comes up at all.
From there the route runs west along the southern arc of the M25 through the Kent stretch, past Sevenoaks, and across the Surrey Hills. It comes off at Junction 14 for Terminals 2, 3 and 5, or Junction 15 for the M4 spur into Terminal 4. Between those two junctions the motorway crosses the Thames free of charge at Runnymede — which is why the Dart Charge does not apply to this journey, and why that gets a full section of its own further down.
Published figures for this journey vary a great deal, because some route planners send you through central London and some route you round the motorway. Here are all three, and the one we price.

The busiest stretch on the journey
The M25 between Junctions 14 and 15 carries some of the heaviest daily traffic on the British strategic road network — averaging around 219,492 vehicles a day on the most recent published counts. That is what a realistic 1 hour 15 minutes off-peak looks like in practice, and why the same drive can run to 1 hour 40 minutes or beyond in the weekday peaks.
We move the pickup, not the price
Rather than pad the estimate, we watch the road on the day of your booking and adjust the pickup time when we need to. The fare does not move when the traffic does. That is the point of a fixed fare — the risk of the M25 is ours, not yours.

What the fare includes
Driver time, the vehicle, and luggage help at the kerb. On inbound journeys, meet-and-greet at Arrivals with a name-board plus 60 minutes' complimentary waiting after your flight lands. On outbound journeys the driver arrives 10 to 15 minutes before your booked pickup and helps with cases at the door. The Dart Charge that does not apply, and the Heathrow forecourt drop-off fee that does — both resolved inside the fare we quoted.
What changes the quote
Nothing, once it is confirmed in writing. Before confirmation, four things: the exact BR / DA / RM pickup postcode — Bluewater, Wilmington and Ebbsfleet International sit at different distances from the M25; the vehicle class your party and cases need; whether you want a child seat or booster (free on request, both directions); and whether you are on a corporate account with monthly billing. None of those depend on the road being clear.
Choosing the right vehicle honestly
A family of four with four large cases is an Estate booking, not a Saloon booking. Two adults with a pushchair and two check-in bags is still a Saloon. Six adults with hand luggage each is an MPV6 at £116, not an MPV8 at £130 — the price rises with capacity, not with what you actually carry. The table above sets seats and cases side by side so you can pick honestly.
If the party grows the arithmetic changes. Not always in our favour, and we set it out either way rather than pick the comparison that flatters us.
There is a real Dartford to Heathrow rail route: Dartford to Abbey Wood on Southeastern, 11 minutes on a direct train, then the Elizabeth line straight through to Heathrow. Fares vary. The lowest advertised figure floats around £7.00 a head for a Heathrow Terminal 5 single. The cheapest fare actually quoted on a booking site for the through Dartford-to-Heathrow journey sits around £17.18 a head (thetrainline.com and mytrainpal.com, checked August 2026). Both appear on rail booking sites, they answer slightly different questions, and both are checkable — so both go here.

Where it tips, and how narrowly
On the through fare actually quoted the train stays cheaper through seven passengers — the seven-passenger row is a genuinely tight £5.74 — and the balance tips at eight with the car cheaper by £7.44. Effectively level at either end of that transition. When the gap is under a tenner across the whole party, the decision comes down to whether you would rather change trains at Abbey Wood with luggage or step into a car at your front door.
What the tables do not measure
The car takes bags at your door and drops them at the terminal kerb. It takes sleeping children and 03:30 departures the timetable does not cover — the first Elizabeth line service from Abbey Wood runs around 05:54, and if your check-in closes before it reaches Heathrow, the timetable is not your answer whatever the fare says. It takes awkward luggage the Elizabeth line cannot: skis, oversized instruments, medical equipment. None of that shows up in a per-head comparison, and none of it changes if the train is cheaper on paper.
If you are one or two people travelling light, this is the honest answer. Dartford to Abbey Wood is 11 minutes on a direct Southeastern service, with 472 services a week between them on the current timetable (checked August 2026).
The Elizabeth line service pattern
At least three trains an hour from Abbey Wood — every 20 minutes or better — from around 05:54 in the morning through to around 22:54 at night. Abbey Wood to Heathrow averages 58 minutes, with the fastest working closer to 48 minutes (tfl.gov.uk Elizabeth line service pattern and Heathrow fares pages, checked August 2026).
End to end, realistically
A fastest possible journey of around 1 hour 14 minutes if every connection lines up, and a realistic average nearer 1 hour 38 minutes. One change of train, at Abbey Wood, with your luggage on the platform. Dartford is in London fare zone 8 and takes Oyster — acceptance began at Dartford on Sunday 6 September 2015.
The two caveats a traveller needs
First, the first and last trains do not cover every flight — a pre-06:00 check-in cannot be reached by the direct Elizabeth line service, and neither can a late-night arrival back from Heathrow much after 22:54. Second, one change of train means moving with luggage, which is fine at 10am on a Wednesday and less fine at 6am on a Sunday with a pushchair.
The plain recommendation
For one or two people travelling light on a mid-morning flight from Terminal 4, the train is usually the better answer, and the numbers above say so cleanly. The section immediately below is where that changes.
This is the detail that catches people out, and it is the one thing on this page most worth reading twice if your ticket says T5.
Terminal 4 · the direct working
The direct Elizabeth line service from Abbey Wood — the one a Dartford traveller will actually catch, via Canary Wharf — serves Heathrow Terminal 4. For Terminals 2 and 3 there are six trains an hour.
Terminal 5 · a change, and then another
Terminal 5 is a different Elizabeth line working via Stratford, with two trains an hour. Reaching it from the Abbey Wood train means changing at Terminals 2 and 3 onto the free inter-terminal transfer service. That adds time — more if you are carrying bags, more still with children or anyone who finds the walk between terminals hard work.
The car answer, stated once
Our fixed fare is the same for all four terminals. We set down at whichever terminal is on your booking, and £102 saloon covers T2, T3, T4 and T5 without variation. It is a small advantage, and it exists because we drive the last mile so you do not have to change onto anything to get there.
If your ticket says Terminal 5 and you are still considering the train, budget for the change and the interchange — not just for the Elizabeth line frequency.
Three charges shape a Dartford traveller's expectation of an airport transfer. Here is each one, what it actually costs, and why it does not reach your fare — in order.
The Dartford Crossing charge
Never appliedPayable 6am to 10pm, seven days a week, bank holidays included, by midnight the day after you use the crossing. Unpaid, the penalty is £70.00, reduced to £35.00 within 14 days and rising to £105.00 if it stays unpaid (gov.uk, checked August 2026).
None of that applies here. The crossing carries traffic north and south across the Thames — it is not a westbound route. Heathrow lies west, and the M25 crosses the river free of charge at Runnymede, well before Junctions 14 and 15.
We say so in case anyone assumes the charge is inside our fare. It never was, because it never applied. If your journey genuinely does cross northbound — an airport pickup returning to Basildon or Grays, say — the charge is added to that fare, because the crossing has actually been used. We do not absorb a charge we never pay, and we do not add one we never used.
The ULEZ at Heathrow
Applies · never yoursTfL puts it plainly: the M25 is outside the ULEZ. Heathrow, including all its terminals, was brought inside the zone on 29 August 2023 (tfl.gov.uk ULEZ where-and-when and boundary pages, checked August 2026).
So the charge does exist on your route — at the airport end only.
Our fleet is ULEZ-compliant end to end: Euro 4 for petrol, Euro 6 for diesel. The standard is met, nothing is payable, and nothing is passed on to you.
The Congestion Charge
Not on this routeUp from £15.00 on 2 January 2026 — a 20% rise. It applies 7am to 6pm on weekdays, and 12 noon to 6pm at weekends and on bank holidays (tfl.gov.uk Congestion Charge pages, checked August 2026).
It does not apply to this journey. The M25 routing between Dartford and Heathrow never enters central London.
If you asked us to route via Waterloo or the West End it would — but that would also add about an hour and roughly £30 of avoidable running, so we do not. It stays a central-London consideration, not a Dartford-to-Heathrow one.
Why none of it reaches your fare
Because the fare is fixed at booking. That is what a fixed fare actually protects against — not just surge pricing, but every road fee or terminal fee that could appear on a metered ride afterwards. Dart Charge, ULEZ, Congestion Charge, forecourt drop-off, night surcharges, waiting after arrival: all of it is either included, not applicable, or absorbed by us. The price you see at booking is the price you pay.
Fewer people book the journey home than the journey out, but it is far too important to leave as a closing line — particularly on a route where the last train has a hard stop and a long-haul arrival often does not.
We track the flight
British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, Emirates, Air France, KLM and other Star Alliance and SkyTeam carriers, via IATA feeds. The pickup shifts to the actual landing time, not the scheduled one — a delay moves the driver, not the price.
Met inside, with a name-board
Your driver meets you inside Arrivals with a name-board, past baggage reclaim at your terminal, and 60 minutes' complimentary waiting from the actual landing time is included while you clear immigration and collect your bags. Then one drive home with the cases in the boot — no changes, no Abbey Wood interchange, no last train to worry about.
The drive back
The inbound leg is usually a little slower than the outbound at most hours — the M25 anticlockwise between Junctions 15 and 3 tends to be heavier in the afternoon and evening than the clockwise direction is in the morning. Budget around 1 hour 20 minutes rather than 1 hour 15, and add a peak buffer if your flight lands between 15:30 and 19:00.
If your flight is delayed
Nothing you need to do. The pickup adjusts to your actual landing time and 60 minutes' waiting is complimentary. If your inbound long-haul lands after midnight, the last Elizabeth line service from Heathrow has already gone — around 22:54 westbound — which is the single most common reason someone books a car on the inbound side of this route. The car does not close at 23:00. We are still there.
We pick up from anywhere in Dartford borough and from the postcode districts that touch it — including five that sit outside the borough entirely, one of them across the river.

A pickup in RM20 is north of the river and genuinely a different journey. That is why our booking form asks for a postcode rather than a town name — one side of a border and the other are not the same fare, and the fare has to be honest before anything else.

Landmarks and interchanges
Bluewater in DA9 is the busiest pickup point outside the town centre — a straight run onto the A282 and away west. Ebbsfleet International in DA10 works well for an early flight. But the direction matters: Ebbsfleet reaches St Pancras in about 18 minutes on High Speed 1, which is impressive, and it does not help you get to Heathrow. From St Pancras you would still have to cross London and pick up the Piccadilly line or the Heathrow Express. Darent Valley Hospital (DA2), Ingress Park (DA9), Whitecliffe (DA10) and Cable Wharf (DA1) are all inside our routine pickup area.
A note on the town
Dartford's population grew from around 97,400 in 2011 to 116,800 in 2021 — a rise of 20.0%, the second largest of any local authority in England behind only Tower Hamlets (ons.gov.uk Census 2021, checked August 2026). A great many people living here today were not living here the last time they booked an airport transfer, which is why nothing above is assumed knowledge. Fastrack is a good local bus network and it does not run to Heathrow. There is no direct National Express coach either — Kent is not on the Heathrow coach map. If you travelled from Dartford before and wondered whether either had changed: no, and neither is a Heathrow answer.

Luggage
If you are carrying an oversize item — skis, a bike box, an oversized instrument — flag it at booking so we send the right vehicle, rather than send a Saloon and turn it into a problem at the door.
Child seats
Free on request in either direction — infant, toddler or booster — asked for at booking rather than at the kerb. Two hours' notice is enough for a routine booking; overnight notice is safer for a 04:00 pickup.
Waiting time
Outbound: the driver arrives 10 to 15 minutes before your booked pickup. Waiting past the booked time is free for the first 15 minutes, then chargeable at a modest rate — we ring or text before starting the clock. Inbound: 60 minutes' complimentary waiting from the actual landing time, which covers anything short of a genuinely stuck passport queue.
Payment and access
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, PayPal and cash to the driver. Corporate accounts with monthly billing for Bluewater retail and hospitality tenants, Dartford business travellers, Darent Valley Hospital staff and school parties. Tell us in advance about wheelchair access, mobility aids or service animals and we send the right vehicle rather than the default one.
Book at least 12 hours ahead for weekday morning flights and 24 hours ahead for early Saturdays. Same-day bookings are usually possible, but a few pre-dawn weekend slots do fill early.

BR8 Swanley and RM20 West Thurrock are not the same distance from Heathrow. The fare is fixed off the postcode, not the town.

4 · The time
A 06:00 flight from T5 with check-in closing at 04:30 is a 03:00 pickup from the town centre — earlier beyond Wilmington or Longfield. No night surcharge: 03:00 costs what 11:00 costs.

Amendments are re-quoted rather than surcharged. Cancellations are free up to 12 hours before pickup. Every fare is confirmed in writing before you travel — no surprises at the kerb, no adjustment on arrival.

Is the train cheaper than a taxi?
For one or two people travelling light, usually yes, and by a wide margin. The balance shifts as the party grows: against the cheapest through fares actually quoted, a group of seven is close to level with the train still ahead by around £5.74, and at eight the car is ahead by around £7.44. Does the direct train go to Terminal 5?
No. The direct Elizabeth line service from Abbey Wood reaches Terminal 4. For Terminal 5 you change at Terminals 2 and 3 onto the free inter-terminal service, which adds time — more of it if you are carrying luggage or travelling with children. Our fixed fare is the same for all four terminals.
Is there a coach from Dartford to Heathrow?
No direct coach. Heathrow is served by coach from many parts of the country, but no Kent town is on that network, so the journey would mean travelling into London first — at which point the Elizabeth line is faster and usually cheaper than a coach connection.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
