Crawley to Heathrow is 41.4 road miles, about 54 minutes when the roads are clear. Our fixed-fare car runs from £84 in a saloon to £125 in an Executive MPV, the same in both directions, with all four Heathrow terminals covered at one price and door pickup across the 14 named neighbourhoods.

Before any of that, one honest sentence: Gatwick is 4.2 miles from Crawley and Heathrow is 41.4 — nine and a bit times further. If your flight leaves from Gatwick, Gatwick is the better answer, and we say so before we say anything about what we charge. We also set out both coach fares in full, including every row where the coach beats us. Last reviewed: 3 August 2026.

Before You Read Any Fares — The Gatwick Question

Every commercial instinct says to mention this quietly, late, in the smallest possible type. We do the opposite. Someone who books forty miles they did not need ends up asking for a refund and leaving a bad review. Someone told plainly who books anyway has chosen us with their eyes open.

Use Gatwick
Only if…
Heathrow is for the flight Gatwick doesn't have — long-haul, a specific carrier, a ticketed connection, or a flight-fare difference worth forty miles

If your flight goes from Gatwick, use Gatwick — our Gatwick Airport taxi page covers the 4.2-mile run, and no fare of ours for that journey appears anywhere below.

When Heathrow Is Genuinely the Right Airport

Only Heathrow flies it

Your route only flies from Heathrow — most long-haul, plus several airlines and code-shares.

The connection is ticketed

Your onward international connection is already ticketed through Heathrow, so the transfer is not yours to re-route.

The flight fare outweighs it

The difference on the flight itself outweighs the ground transfer. That is a real reason, and it is your arithmetic to do.

Gatwick doesn't offer it

Your flight simply is not offered from Gatwick. If none of these four apply, take the near airport.

How we work out every fare on this page

Each fare is computed from our published rate card at 41.4 miles — a minimum covering the first five miles, a per-mile rate beyond that, plus the £7 Heathrow drop-off charge. Nothing is rounded to look attractive. If a sentence here ever disagrees with the arithmetic, the arithmetic is right.

What the Journey Costs

A car does not get cheaper — it gets shared. The right-hand column is the figure to compare against a coach or rail fare, because both of those are priced per person and ours is priced per vehicle.

What changes a quote

The exact postcode — the 14 neighbourhoods sit at different distances from the M23 — plus the vehicle, the time of day, and extras such as child seats.

What does not change it

The terminal, and the direction of travel. T2, T3, T4 and T5 cost the same, outbound and inbound. That is one detail we can lock down whatever your boarding pass says.

Included in every fare

TfL-licensed DBS-checked driver, all tolls and the £7 Heathrow drop-off charge, flight monitoring on returns, meet-and-greet past baggage reclaim, 60 minutes' complimentary waiting, free child seats, wheelchair access on request, and payment by Visa, Mastercard, Amex, PayPal, cash or corporate account.

No direct coach from Crawley · both fares set out in full, including the rows the coach wins

Why £14.90 Is Not a Crawley Fare

One thing is worth knowing before you compare any prices, and few travel guides mention it: there is no direct coach from Crawley town to Heathrow. Both published chains change at Gatwick Airport.

Chain A · no direct service · 1 h 39 m

Fastway 10 to Gatwick North, then National Express 025 to Heathrow Central.

Chain B · no direct service · 1 h 56 m

Fastway 10 to Gatwick South, then coach to Heathrow (rome2rio.com, checked 31 July 2026).

The real per-person cost · £17.90

The £14.90 every aggregator prints is the National Express Gatwick-to-Heathrow leg (nationalexpress.com). Add the £3.00 capped Metrobus connecting bus and a Crawley passenger pays £17.90. The £3.00 cap runs to 31 December 2026; £2.00 applies from 1 January 2027 (gov.uk, checked 31 July 2026).

A £3 difference — worth one whole passenger at the crossover. So we set out both, clearly labelled. A party of five who saw only the advertised fare would reach the wrong conclusion about their own journey.

The seven-person row is the tightest margin on this route — thirty pence across the entire party. It was found by the arithmetic, not chosen. At that distance the two options are effectively the same price, so the deciding factor stops being money and becomes whether you want a change at Gatwick with seven people's airport luggage.

The crossover moves by two whole passengers: one is the £3.00 connecting bus, the other the £7 Heathrow forecourt drop-off charge already inside our fare.

Two hidden costs, named

One passenger of the shift is the £3.00 connecting bus. The other is the £7 Heathrow forecourt drop-off charge already inside our fare, which you would otherwise pay separately. Naming both is more useful than naming either alone.

Where the coach genuinely wins

At one, two, three and four passengers on both tables. For a solo traveller with hand luggage, £14.90 against £84 is not a close call — take the coach.

Where the coach calls at Heathrow

Terminal 5 and Heathrow Central Bus Station for T2 and T3; the 205 service also stops at T4. A passenger for any other terminal has an onward leg the fare does not cover.

Outside those hours the coach is not slower — it is not running

That is the honest reason a very early or very late flight is a car job rather than a preference. A flight needing a Crawley departure before roughly 02:00 has no coach chain behind it at all. We dispatch 24/7 with no late-night surcharge.

The Train — and Why the Cheaper Chain Is Not What a Default Search Sells

Fastest 1 hour 38 minutes against an average of 2 hours 1 minute, advance fares from £59.30 (thetrainline.com, checked 31 July 2026). Two published sources route the journey differently, at different prices.

Routing A · via Farringdon — the cheaper chain

Three Bridges → Farringdon on Thameslink — 45 minutes fastest, 53 average (thameslinkrailway.com, checked 31 July 2026).

Farringdon → Heathrow on the Elizabeth line — 33 minutes fastest, from £13.90 leg fare; 6 an hour to T2/T3, 4 an hour to T4, 2 an hour to T5 (heathrow.com, checked 31 July 2026).

Routing B · via a London terminal — what the default search returns

Crawley towards a London terminal, then Heathrow Express from Paddington.

Both are real journeys at different prices. Knowing the cheaper chain is not the default answer is worth more than either fare on its own.

One junction on this route makes your way home different from your way out

Distance, Route and Journey Time

41.4 road miles, typically 54 minutes clear. A23 north to the M23 spine — 17 miles from Pease Pottage on Crawley's southern edge to south of Hooley in Surrey — then M23 Junction 8 into the M25 at Junction 7, anticlockwise round the western quadrant to Junction 15, then M4 Junction 4b for the airport spur.

No Dartford Crossing on this routing

The M25 anticlockwise arc from Junction 7 to Junction 15 never crosses the Thames at Dartford. No crossing charge enters your fare, in either direction.

The road to Heathrow passes Gatwick

Junction 9 of the M23 is the airport most of Crawley uses. A Heathrow-bound car drives straight past it and keeps going — the Gatwick question made physical, forty miles before you arrive.

A note on kilometres

The same journey planner shows 41.4 miles alongside "48.9 km", but 41.4 miles is 66.6 km. The two halves do not describe the same distance. We publish the mile figure and no kilometre figure at all.

M23 Junction 10a · northbound only · your route home is not your route out

DirectionWhat Junction 10a allows
CAN
Outbound. A Maidenbower driver can join the motorway towards the airport at Junction 10a. Opened in 1997 to serve Maidenbower, it has a northbound slip road only.
CANNOT
Inbound. The same driver cannot come off there on the way home. The return uses a different junction, and the return mileage differs slightly at 41.2 miles.

It is the clearest example on this route of why an outbound and an inbound route from the same front door are not mirror images — and why we quote against a postcode rather than a town name.

Five worked departures · every clock time UK time

Leaving Crawley for a Heathrow Flight

Most of these journeys are outbound — people leaving for a flight rather than coming home from one. We work backwards from your flight: the airline's check-in window, plus the 54-minute drive, plus a buffer for the M25 western quadrant.

Check-in close shown is a typical long-haul window. Adjust for your carrier's actual window and terminal at booking — tell us the flight number and we work the subtraction against your real check-in time rather than a typical one.

The hours where the coach is not a choice

The first National Express Gatwick–Heathrow coach is 01:10 arriving 03:05, and the connecting bus has its own first time on top. A flight needing a Crawley departure before roughly 02:00 is a car job by necessity, not preference.

24/7 dispatch, no premium

A 03:15 pickup costs the same as a 15:15 one. No late-night surcharge, no surge, no airport premium — the fare in your confirmation is the fare you pay.

Coming home · 41.2 miles · the change falls after your flight, not before it

Arriving at Heathrow and Coming Home to Crawley

Fewer people book the journey home than the journey out, but it is the one where getting it wrong costs the most. You have landed with luggage, 41 miles from home, and the public-transport answer is worse inbound than outbound.

The coach still routes through Gatwick Airport on the way back — 1 hour 35 to 1 hour 45 minutes — so the interchange falls at the end of the journey, after a flight, with luggage. On most journeys a change is something you make fresh, on the way out. Here it lands when you are least equipped for it.

We track your flight

British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, Emirates, Air France, KLM and Star Alliance carriers, live via IATA feeds. A delay moves the driver, not the price.

Met inside, with a name-board

Your driver waits inside your terminal past baggage reclaim, holding a name-board, with 60 minutes' complimentary waiting from actual touchdown while you clear immigration.

One drive home

41.2 miles, roughly 54 minutes, to any of the 14 neighbourhoods, cases in the boot. No change at Gatwick with luggage after a flight.

Four stations in the borough · and why the postcode matters more than the town name

Your Crawley Pickup — Postcode, Not Town Name

Crawley is built as neighbourhoods rather than a centre with suburbs, and they sit at different distances from the M23. Four things get us to a confirmed booking.

1 · A postcode, not "Crawley"

Fourteen named neighbourhoods at different distances from the motorway. Junction 10a is northbound only, so a Maidenbower pickup outbound is not the same route inbound.

2 · Date and time, or the flight number

For an arrival we need the flight number and terminal to track it. For a departure, the flight number lets us work the pickup back from a real check-in window.

3 · Party size and case count

Matches you to the right vehicle class — and on the tables above, decides whether the car or the coach is your cheaper answer.

4 · Any extras

Child seats (free), wheelchair access, extra stops, or a specific pickup point. Declare them at booking and they are in the fare.

One postcode trap worth naming

Crawley Down, West Sussex is six miles east, in the Mid Sussex district — a different local authority, a different mileage, and people there say "Crawley" on the telephone. Its stations are Three Bridges and East Grinstead. Tell us the postcode at booking so we quote for the origin you are actually at.

Business travel from Manor Royal

The business park runs to 600+ businesses across roughly 30,000 jobs on 540 acres (manorroyal.org, checked 31 July 2026) — over 70% of the borough's employment land. Corporate account facility with monthly billing and a VAT receipt as standard. Executive Mercedes E-Class at £109, Executive MPV at £125.

A Note on Crawley Stations — the Borough Has Four, Not Three

The council's own transport page lists three. The national rail record confirms a fourth. We name all four, because which one you live near changes which rail chain in the section above actually applies to you.

Crawley and Heathrow — Your Questions Answered

Every third-party figure is sourced and dated. If you spot one that has moved since we last checked, tell us — we would rather correct it than leave it.

How far is Crawley from Heathrow?

41.4 road miles via the A23, M23 and M25 — about 54 minutes when the roads are clear (rome2rio.com, checked 31 July 2026). Inbound is 41.2 miles by the same measure. Our fixed fares are computed from 41.4 miles.

How long does the drive from Crawley to Heathrow take?

54 minutes typical. Longer at peak, especially on the M25 western quadrant between Junctions 10 and 15 on Friday afternoons and around bank holidays.

How much is a taxi from Crawley to Heathrow?

Our fixed fare starts at £84 in a saloon and rises to £125 in an Executive MPV, based on 41.4 miles. Every fare applies in both directions and includes the £7 Heathrow drop-off charge, all tolls and free child seats. Fares are indicative and confirmed at booking via our fare calculator.

Is there a direct coach or bus from Crawley to Heathrow?

No — both published coach chains change at Gatwick Airport. The £14.90 quoted by aggregators is the National Express Gatwick-to-Heathrow leg. The real per-person cost from Crawley is £17.90 once the £3.00 capped Metrobus connecting bus is added. The £2.00 cap replaces the £3.00 from 1 January 2027 (gov.uk, checked 31 July 2026).

Why is the coach cheaper than a taxi for one person?

Because a coach fare is per person and a taxi fare is per vehicle. At £14.90 — or £17.90 real — against £84 for the saloon, a solo traveller pays a lot less on the coach. From five people on the real cost, or seven on the published fare, the arithmetic reverses and the car wins. Every row is printed in both tables on this page.

Is there a direct train from Crawley to Heathrow?

No — one change is required. Fastest 1 hour 38 minutes, average 2 hours 1 minute, about 101 services a day (thetrainline.com, checked 31 July 2026). Advance from £59.30. Two published sources route it differently: Three Bridges → Farringdon on Thameslink then Farringdon → Heathrow on the Elizabeth line; or Crawley towards a London terminal then Heathrow Express. The cheaper chain is not what a default search returns.

Isn't Gatwick closer than Heathrow?

Yes — Gatwick is 4.2 miles from Crawley and Heathrow is 41.4, nine and a bit times further. If your flight can leave from Gatwick, use Gatwick. Heathrow is for the flight Gatwick does not offer — long-haul, a specific carrier, or a ticketed connection.

Do you cover all four Heathrow terminals?

Yes — T2, T3, T4 and T5. The terminal does not change our fare in either direction. Tell us the terminal at booking so the driver meets you at the right point.

What time should I leave Crawley for an early Heathrow flight?

Work backwards from check-in close — typically 60 minutes before departure for short-haul, 60 to 90 for long-haul. Add the 54-minute drive plus a 20 to 45 minute M25 buffer. A 06:30 T5 long-haul wants roughly a 03:15 Crawley pickup; a 12:00 T5 flight wants around 08:00.

Do you track my flight if it lands late?

Yes. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, Emirates, Air France, KLM and Star Alliance carriers via IATA feeds. The pickup moves to your actual landing time, with 60 minutes' complimentary waiting included.

Which Crawley areas do you cover?

All 14 named neighbourhoods — Bewbush, Broadfield, Forge Wood, Furnace Green, Gossops Green, Ifield, Langley Green, Maidenbower, Northgate, Pound Hill, Southgate, Three Bridges, Tilgate and West Green (crawley.gov.uk, checked 31 July 2026). Crawley Down, six miles east in Mid Sussex district, is a different origin — tell us the postcode. Manor Royal business addresses covered as standard.

How much is a minibus from Crawley to Heathrow?

Eight people travel in an MPV8 (Mercedes Vito) for £108 — £13.50 each. Seven fit an MPV7 at £104. For groups above eight we arrange 16-seat minibuses on request, quoted from the same rate card.

When does the coach stop being an option at all?

The first Gatwick–Heathrow coach is 01:10 arriving 03:05, and the last is 23:45 arriving 00:55 (nationalexpress.com, checked 31 July 2026). The connecting bus from Crawley has its own first and last times on top. Outside those windows the coach is not slower — it is not running. We dispatch 24/7 with no late-night surcharge.

Crawley → Heathrow · 41.4 miles · reviewed 3 August 2026

Three things we can promise you

A fixed fare confirmed in writing before you travel, once we know your Crawley postcode — £84 saloon to £125 Executive MPV, the same in either direction, all four terminals. A pickup at whatever hour your flight demands, including the 03:15 that a 06:30 departure needs, with no late-night premium. And a driver waiting when your inbound flight lands, with 60 minutes' complimentary waiting while you clear immigration — no change at Gatwick with luggage after a flight.
