It is a genuinely unusual gap. Woking sits on the South West Main Line about 23 miles from central London and is one of the better-connected towns in Surrey — yet the national timetable's own page for services to Gatwick Airport names four other towns with a direct train, and Woking is not among them.
Being well connected to London is not the same as being connected to this particular airport, and it is the single most interesting fact about this journey that most guides leave out.

The national coach operator's own page for Gatwick lists several routes, and none touch this part of the county — the network approaches Gatwick from the south and east, and Woking sits to the north-west of it.
There is one scheduled airport coach leaving Woking Station, and it serves a different airport entirely, in the opposite direction: the RA2 reaches Heathrow Terminals 2, 3 and 5 in under 40 minutes. Chaining that on to Gatwick would mean a change at Heathrow onto a second operator's service, which planners put at well over an hour and a half end to end — not a practical route for most travellers, and mentioned only because leaving it out would make this incomplete.
