Langton Green and Lamberhurst are 9.2 miles apart — around 40 per cent of the whole journey — and £11.96 apart on a saloon fare. Both are in TN3.
There is the crux of it. TN3 covers 44.07 square miles against 0.63 in TN1, seventy times the size, so the postcode district cannot tell one end of it from the other. A quote built on the district alone is a quote for a journey that might be 21.1 miles or might be 30.3, and no amount of care afterwards recovers the difference.
So we ask for the full postcode down to the unit, plus a house name or number. Where the pickup is a station forecourt, a hospital entrance or a large site with more than one gate, give us the building name too — a driver who reaches the right postcode and the wrong entrance has reached nowhere. The result is a quote priced on your actual journey rather than an average of the district.

Worth adding while the subject is open: part of TN3 sits in East Sussex rather than Kent, and two of the four districts cross out of the Tunbridge Wells council area. The town is in Kent; the postcode region sharing its name is not entirely, which is another reason we quote from the address rather than the county.
Start with the terminal, because it is the thing that most often goes wrong. Gatwick has two — North Terminal and South Terminal — and they sit on opposite sides of the railway. You cannot walk between them. The route runs A264, then A22, then A26, then A21, then M23 — cross-country rather than motorway, with only the final stretch touching the M23. The section that decides your morning is the A264 between East Grinstead and Crawley. That stretch is the difference between 35 minutes and 50.
Work backwards from your flight, and use your airline's check-in window rather than a general rule, because it varies by carrier and by destination. Then add the drive: use 50 minutes rather than 39 if you are outside the town centre or travelling at peak, and add a buffer of your own on top.

The local bus route, the 291, runs Crawley to Tunbridge Wells and its published route does not enter the airport, which is why the journey becomes two legs.
