Why there is no direct service. Luton Airport is served by Thameslink from Luton Airport Parkway station, running south into London St Pancras and Blackfriars. Stansted is served by the Stansted Express, running into London Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale. These are on opposite sides of central London, so any rail journey between them means crossing the city.

An extra step at the Luton end. Luton Airport Parkway station isn't inside the terminal — it's connected by the Luton DART, a short automated transit link. Factor this additional step into your journey time if you're travelling by rail, since it's not needed if you take the coach, which drops you at the terminal door.
